5 Properties of Metals

Elements found in nature can be roughly divided into 2 major categories – Metals, Non-Metals, this distinction is based on certain properties.
Below I’ve put all the properties which can be used for distinguishing an Element as a Metal or Non-Metal.

Shiny Appearance

If an Element have shiny appearance then its categorized as a Metal. For example – Gold, Silver, Iron etc.

Good Conductor

If an Element can conduct heat, electricity through it then its categorized as Metal. For example – Copper, Iron etc.

Ductile

Ductile means “can be drawn into wires”. If an Element is Ductile then its categorized as Metal. For example – Copper, Tungsten, Platinum etc.

Malleable

Malleable means “can be hammered into thin sheets”. If an Element is Malleable then its categorized as Metal. For example – Gold, Copper, Vanadium etc.

Sonorous

Sonorous means “produces sound when hit”. If an Element is Sonorous then its categorized as Metal. For example – copper, bronze, steel, aluminium etc.
